In the last few weeks alone, one mother and her child made significant improvements with your help. Amy came to us with her 4-year-old daughter, Ellie. Ellie had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and had received only basic medical care. However, she had not received any assessment or treatment for the emotional, social, and behavioral issues that often stem from a mild physical disability. With the help of her social worker, Amy and Ellie are now scheduled to receive mental health services, and Ellie will be assessed by the school system before she enters kindergarten.
Meanwhile, Amy attended our parenting, domestic violence, and nutrition classes, building her skills as a mother. Also, we adapted our yoga class to include Ellie, who benefitted physically and emotionally from the calming activity. Amy and Ellie are moving into their own apartment and are able to celebrate the holidays as a family. Importantly, Amy will start a new job in a few weeks. This combination of housing and employment will help her daughter continue to receive medical care, and enable Amy to buy the nutritious food that she has learned is so good for their health.
Your support opens these services to families like Amy’s. As we begin this New Year, I hope you will make these families a priority in your own life. With your support, they will thrive. Please make a donation today!
