Take Action

Women’s Empowerment formed in 2001 with the help of community partners willing to donate their time, their expertise, and their dollars. With these resources, we have served 612 homeless women and their 658 children since our doors opened.

Donate with Confidence

Women’s Empowerment participates in an annual financial audit. ( Downloadable PDF) Our Annual Report & Financials page contains additional information.

Our overhead is low: 19%. That means for every dollar you donate to Women’s Empowerment, a low 19 cents covers administrative costs. (The national average is 25 cents.)

Community volunteers teach the majority of our classes, helping us keep costs low. You won’t find any frills here: our computers, office furniture, and even a portion of our rent are donated. Our priority: the homeless women and children we serve. Our spending reflects our commitment.

Named Nonprofit of the Year by the Nonprofit Resource Center in 2009, Women's Empowerment holds one of the highest nonprofit honors in the Sacramento region. Judging criteria include: impact, engaged board, financial management, persistence, planning, and executive director. Our organization excels in all categories.
