Women’s Empowerment is a grassroots non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and empower women who are homeless with the skills and the confidence necessary to get a job, create a healthy lifestyle and regain a home for themselves and their children. Women’s Empowerment is dedicated to ending homelessness one woman at a time. Women’s Empowerment has a small dynamic staff and large number of community volunteers.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive fundraising and resource development strategies for Women’s Empowerment. The position oversees all aspects of fundraising and the development of strategic partnerships with supporting organizations and individuals in the broader community. Additionally this position organizes and trains volunteers for implementation of fundraising events and general public relations events. It serves as staff liaison for grants, appeal letters, and ad hoc event committees. Overall, this position is to enhance and support the long range sustainability of Women’s Empowerment.
Principal Activities and Responsibilities
Fund Development
•Develop and implement, in coordination with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, a comprehensive fund development plan with annual goals and outcomes.
•Identify and pursue grants that meet the program needs of Women’s Empowerment. Secure annual percentage of grant funding.
•Provide cultivation and stewardship of current and prospective individual donors, corporations and foundations and ensure that donor intent is met.
•Perform analysis of donor activity to evaluate giving patterns and solicitation results.
•Support donors by assisting in stewardship and recognition activities; seek out creative ideas for donor recognition.
•Develop and implement procedures to ensure proper donor and volunteer acknowledgement.
•Oversee and produce appeal letters.
•Coordinate and implement annual fundraiser.
Public Relations
•Develop and execute a marketing strategy to engage the community in the mission of Women’s Empowerment.
•Lead the effort in “branding” the organization and creating a consistent message that supports the mission of Women’s Empowerment.
•Promote Women’s Empowerment through printed materials and media outlets.
•Establish and maintain positive, professional working relations with all community partners and funding sources.
•Represent Women’s Empowerment at public events, such as civic groups, service organizations, faith-based organizations, potential employers and United Way, as requested.
Records and Reports
•Insure accuracy of all donor related information; submit reports to Executive Director and others as requested.
•Develop and maintain system to track donations, donors, partnerships and sponsors.
•Develop and monitor progress of all fundraising and resource development efforts and outcomes; submit reports to Board of Directors and others as requested.
•Compile and report statistical information in compliance with grant funding requirements.
•Responsible for analysis of program evaluation data and preparation of data into reports to funders.
•Make recommendations to Executive Director for final approval before implementing changes.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in a related field, and 3 years of experience in fund development and/or public relations. Experience writing successful grant proposals, face-to-face solicitations and planning and executing large fundraising events is strongly desired. The position requires computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and database programs. Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.

The ideal candidate will be creative and possess excellent organizational, leadership and planning skills. The ability to cultivate effective working relationships with donors, community partners, volunteers and colleagues is essential.
Demonstrated professional integrity, ethics and respect of confidential donor related information are paramount.
An alignment with the mission of Women’s Empowerment and general knowledge of the challenges unique to homeless women, minorities and persons with disabilities is important to the success of the candidate.
Experience in the non profit sector is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements are those that are present in normal office environment conditions, and infrequently may involve light to moderate lifting. Duties may involve occasional evening and weekend work to meet organizational needs and volunteer committee coordination.
Licenses
Candidates must posses a valid California driver’s license and meet the State’s automobile insurability requirement.
