What can you do to help?
Women's Empowerment is able to help and support homeless women only with the assistance of the community. The program depends on volunteer teachers, contributors of supplies and financial scholarships to graduate 100 women per year. We invite you to consider the following ways to join the Women's Empowerment effort. If you have an idea on how to help, please let us know. Scholarships
You or your company can provide the funding for an individual scholarship. There is no charge to our students; the scholarship helps offset the overall program expenses.
Individual Scholarship
One woman to complete the Women's Empowerment program (8 weeks of class and six months of follow-up and support). $1,500.00
Class Scholarship:
An entire graduating class of Women's Empowerment (12-15 women) (8 weeks of class and six months of follow-up and support) $20,000.00
Supplies
We are always in need of supplies, or the funding to provide the classroom supplies. You or your company is welcome to purchase items from our wish list or, you may sponsor the cost of supplies for an individual student or the entire class.
One Woman: Class supplies for one woman for an 8-week class - $75.00
Entire Class: Class supplies for an entire 8-week class - $1,000.00
Items on our wish list include bus passes, phone calling cards, stamps, day planners, computer software, alarm clocks, watches and umbrellas.
Volunteer Opportunities Women's Empowerment operates through our dedicated and hardworking volunteers. If you, a group of friends or coworkers would like to be involved, we welcome you. There are numerous opportunities to help depending upon your time, skills and interests. Listed below are some of our ongoing volunteer needs. Annual Gala Committee: Our biggest event of the year is now our annual fundraiser. Help us make it a success by joining the gala committee!
Tech Support: If you are computer savvy, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. When computers are donated, we need help refurbishing them so we may give them to our graduates. We would also love to have support for our own computers.
Job Mentor: We are looking for women who have work experience and an hour per week to work one-on-one with a program participant. Often mentors work with participants through tasks such as resume writing, mock interviews and self-confidence development.
Teachers and Small Group Facilitators: If you have a specialty or passion that would help our women along their journey to success, consider being a Women's Empowerment volunteer teacher or small group facilitator.
Event Committee: Work side-by-side with the women in the program by helping plan ahead and set-up on the day of the events. Events include graduations, fundraisers and open houses.
Thank-you Persons: So that our tiny staff can stay focused on the challenges of an ever-growing program, we depend on those volunteers to address thank-you notes for the donations we receive.
