A Successful Celebration!

On September 22, 2011 graduates, staff, volunteers, community members, and family gathered together to celebrate the 10th Annual Women’s Empowerment Gala.  Guests of the sold-out event enjoyed a moving program, an exciting silent and live auction and raffle, and inspirational speeches from executive director Lisa Culp and Women’s Empowerment graduate Julie Debbs. Together, we raised $120,000!

United Way Grant for Financial Literacy

United Way has provided Women's Empowerment with a $25,000 grant to partially fund our WE Works! Empowerment Through Financial Literacy program. We offer this new program to students who have completed our original eight-week class and in stable housing, but who still need addition resources to ensure their long-term success. As these women continue their job searches, we provide training to help them make the best use of their limited resources. The topics we cover in this class include attitudes toward money, personal budgeting, managing checking and savings accounts, prudent use of credit, sound shopping habits, basics of insurance, and utility deposits. Working toward the goal of financial self-sufficiency, WE Works! students meet twice per week to submit job applications, practice typing, complete Microsoft Office trainings, and complete the financial literacy curriculum.

Rotary Club of Sacramento Grant for Childcare

The Rotary Club of Sacramento has provided Women's Empowerment with a $5,000 grant to fund the expansion of our childcare room. To meet our growing childcare needs, we have doubled the size of our childcare space, replaced the flooring, and hired a Child Development Coordinator. These vital changes would not have been possible without the generous support of the Rotary Club of Sacramento.

This month’s Evening Dress Sale and Benefit Concert were huge successes!

The Prom and Evening Dress hosted by Kimberly Page Skincare and Salud to Wellness and organized by Ronnie Corrick helped local high school students get ready for prom without forking up lots of cash. Teenagers purchased gowns for $20 apiece and learned about our mission.

Women’s Empowerment also extends a huge thank you to Chuck and Janet Nicol for hosting a beautiful evening of music and delectable desserts at Westminster Presbyterian Church downtown.
